New Scottish Law Compliant Interlinked Fire Alarms
From 1st February 2022 all homes in Scotland must have interlinked fire alarms. Interlinked means if one goes off, they all go off, so you will hear an alarm wherever you are in your home. It is the property owner's responsibility to ensure the home is compliant with the new regulations.
- What are the new rules
- One heat alarm in the kitchen
- One Smoke alarm in the living room or the room used most during the day
- One Smoke alarm in each landing or hallway
- One Smoke alarm in a loft & garage conversion
- For every carbon-fuelled appliance, e.g. gas/oil/wood boiler, coal/gas/log fire, gas/oil heater or flue in any room, you must have a carbon monoxide detector in that room. An appliance used solely for cooking does not require a carbon monoxide detector. If the boiler is located in a cupboard the carbon monoxide detector should be fitted on the wall outside the cupboard. Carbon monoxide detectors do not need to be interlinked to the heat or smoke detectors.
- What type of alarms are required
- Heat Alarms must comply with BS 5446-2:2003
- Smoke Alarms must comply with BS EN14604:2005
- Carbon Monoxide Alarms must comply with British Kitemark EN 50291-1
- All alarms must be either mains supplied with battery backup, or sealed tamper-proof with long-life lithium-ion batteries, which can be up to 10years
- All alarms supplied by InterAlarms comply with the above regulationss
